How can I take notes on a video while it is playing?
Here are some instructions for splitting your screen, allowing you to have a Youtube video playing while you type notes in a word processing application, like Word or Pages. 1. Find a video in Youtube. 2. Go to the very edge of the Youtube window until the curser changes to a two-way arrow. 3. Click and grab the edge of the window and move it to the left or right so that the Youtube screen only takes up half of your total computer screen. 4. Open your word processing application. 5. (non-Mac computer)In the upper right corner click the button between the the minimize and maximize buttons. There is one in the middle that will reduce the size of your window. Then, click and drag the window to the other side of your computer screen so that the Youtube video takes up half and the word processing application takes up half. (Mac) Follow the same procedure for reducing the size of your Youtube video screen. Go to the border of your Pages window until the cursor becomes a double sided arrow. Click and drag the edge of your window until it is small enough to take up only half of the entire computer screen. Resize the window to just where you want it so that you can see both the Youtube video playing and type within Pages. 6. Play the Youtube video. Type in the word processor application. Play and pause the video as you need to do so.
Where is the Wiki?
We had to modify the wiki just a bit. Your teacher must check out your video before it is uploaded to the "Share your Work!" page, which will function similarly to a wiki. But, to see the work of other students, you just need to click on the "Share your Work!" page.
Is this website going to be boring?
Well, I certainly hope not. That's the point. Non-fiction doesn't have to be boring, so let's figure out together how to create non-fiction works that aren't boring. Non-fiction can come in any genre, so if you are an eloquent poem writer, you can contribute. If you are really good at writing song lyrics, or short stories, then you can contribute. Whatever genre you like, can become a work of non-fiction.
What if I'm not a good writer?
Writing skills can be learned. You can learn to be a good writer. Nobody is born a good writer. Writing skills are learned over time and that makes people good writers.
What if I don't want to write a non-fiction article?
Then, make a movie or write a play. Is there any other genre you can think of that you'd like to work with? Then, make that. Even if you aren't already skilled at creating a certain kind of genre, you can still share your work. This website exists so that we can all learn. We never stop learning, even when we are old. There is always something that we don't know, but that doesn't mean we can't learn to do it. It takes practice, that's all. So, if you want to become a good writer, filmmaker, poet or song writer, you can, even with non-fiction works.
